What is co-terming?

The Salesforce contract renews every September 1. Co-terming means an agency can buy licenses any time during the year — they don't have to wait for September. They just jump onto the contract mid-spin and pay for the remaining months until the next renewal.

✂️
Why the cost splits

If an agency buys in May, they pay at the current contract rate for May through August (4 months). Then in September, the contract renews at the new rate — so the rest of the year is billed at the updated price. Two rates, one purchase.

📅
The NYS fiscal year wrinkle

NYS fiscal year runs April 1 – March 31. That boundary doesn't line up with the September Salesforce renewal. A single purchase can land in two different NYS fiscal years — meaning budget analysts may need to split costs across two separate budget lines.

⚠️
The "cheap quote" trap

A mid-year co-term quote only shows the partial months until September — so it looks like a great deal. It's not a discount; it's just a partial year. The full annual billing kicks in at renewal. Always look at the 12-month total, not just the initial quote.
